1:1 therapy
What does 1:1 OT with Foundations look like?
Your child works one-on-one with one of our OTs on goals we set together with you. Sessions are play-based and built around what your child enjoys, so it feels less like therapy and more like a good time with someone who gets them.
Where do sessions happen?
We're mobile, so we come to you: at home, at school or kinder, or down at the local park. Seeing your child where they actually live, learn and play means we can work on the things that matter in that setting.
What can you help with?
Emotional regulation, handwriting, fine and gross motor skills, sensory processing, self-care, play and social skills, routines, and joining in at school. We work with lots of neurodivergent kids, including autistic children and kids with ADHD, anxiety or dyspraxia.
What happens at the first session?
Before we start working with your child, we run an intake process that fits your family's situation. It usually starts with a parent intake meeting, where we get to know your family, talk about what's going well and what's hard, and set goals together. Where it helps, we'll also do a classroom observation and meet with your child's teacher, so we can see the whole picture.
Your child's first 1:1 session is all about getting to know each other. Building trust and rapport comes first, because that's the foundation for everything we work on together.
How long are sessions, and how often?
Sessions are booked in 70-minute blocks. That covers your child's time with us plus the work around it: planning the session, making resources, and the detailed session summary we send to you and your child's team afterwards. We can also book longer sessions when a particular goal or situation needs it, and we'll work out how often together, based on your child's goals.
How do you keep parents involved?
You know your child best, so we keep you in the loop the whole way. We share strategies you can use at home, and we're always happy to chat with teachers or other professionals in your child's team.
Do you offer telehealth?
Yes. Telehealth works well for parent coaching, check-ins and some goals, and it's handy when an in-person visit is hard to fit in.
Working with schools and kinders
Can you see my child at school or kinder?
Yes. A big part of our week is spent in classrooms and playgrounds. With the school's OK, we can see your child where the tricky moments actually happen.
How do you work with teachers?
We believe teachers are the experts in their classroom. We share practical strategies teachers can use the same week, and we make sure everyone working with your child is on the same page.
Do you offer support for a whole school or kinder?
Yes, through our School Partnerships. These can include consulting days, lunchtime movement groups, staff professional development, help with Disability Inclusion applications, and kinder school-readiness programs. There's no cost to families, and schools have several funding options.
Can you come to student support group meetings?
Yes, we're happy to join meetings and share how your child is going and what's working. Meetings are billed only for the time we spend in them.
Sports OT
What is Sports OT?
It uses sport as the tool for therapy. We help kids build coordination, confidence and regulation through things like kicking a footy, catching a ball or joining in a team warm-up, so they can join in and enjoy sport.
What are Sense AFL and Sense Rugby?
OT-led small-group footy and rugby programs for kids who find team sport hard. They're about having fun, making friends, following instructions, taking turns and managing big feelings. Weekly groups run in Prahran, Elwood and Box Hill, and we also run lunchtime groups in schools.
Does my child need to be sporty?
Not at all. The groups are made for kids who haven't clicked with sport yet. Every skill is broken into small steps, and every child gets a go.
Can my child do 1:1 therapy and a sports group?
Yes. Lots of families combine them. We also offer 1:1 Sports Skill Foundations sessions for kids who want to learn a particular sport or skill, like riding a bike.
